Old Answer: I have no idea?
New Answer: Check out MDSave.com…
Rx Prescription Discount Programs are nothing new.
As you may already be aware, websites such as GoodRx.com which many of my clients are already familiar with, have been used for many years to help save on prescription drugs. Just for the record, there are several different organizations offering prescription discount programs that may yield significant savings. Other discount programs such as Single Care, Well Rx, Blink Health, Buzz Rx and many more, are just a quick Google search away. As always, you may wish to shop around a bit and determine for yourself which plan might be best for you. And keep in mind, some pharmacies such as CVS have their own in-house discount programs that can also prove to be quite competitive. Saving a few dollars is always the goal!
How to Save on Medical Procedures and Major Test may be a little less known about?
Well, here’s some good news! As previously highlighted above, my new answer is “Check out MDSave.com, and you might be pleasantly surprised?”
Today, many health clients have rather large deductibles, and these high deductibles will generally apply to any inpatient or outpatient procedures, as well as the major test that can also get to be quite expensive. No matter your personal needs, it can’t hurt to simply check it out and see if there is a better deal out there for you. In some cases, you may be able to reduce your actual out-of-pocket expenses.
Just for comparison purposes, here’s a true-life example one of my clients recently experienced and shared with me. The major test needed was an MRA for Chest with and without contrast. Any medical test can be quite scarry, and even scarier when you get the cost. The MRA test initially was going to run $1,522 via a major hospital MRI department. After a few clicks via MDSave.com the client was able to bring down the cost to $595, which yielded a nearly thousand-dollar savings! Here’s one catch, you will need to “pre-buy” the test. You will be able to choose the medical facility of your choice, so you may need to redirect the “doctor’s orders” to the new provider. And yes, you do have a “choice” in where you get your test or medical procedure. To make sure you are indeed comparing “apples with apples” you may wish to get the specific “CPT Code” from your initial doctor’s orders. This way you can be certain you are paying for the correct test that your doctor has prescribed. After you’ve made your decision, pre-paid for your test, you simply print out a “voucher” indicating specifically the test you paid for, you just simply bring with you on your appointment for testing or procedure. You may likely need to call the testing facility to set an appointment time if you decide to go somewhere different than originally prescribed. Overall, client experience and general feedback on MDSave.com was excellent, and recommended with confidence.
I do believe in most cases, this “shop around” to try and save, is more likely in “testing” and is some cases possibly in lower cost “medical procedures” as well. Most test are likely within your deductible limits, and you can probably realize at least some savings when comparing different facilities. However, many medical procedures, certainly many out-patient operations will likely supersede your deductible, so all this “shopping around” may be moot point.
As always, when in doubt, you may wish to take a few minutes to do your own investigation, and you never know, you just might be a few clicks away from savings hundreds of dollars!
This is a new addition to the “What the Health?” newsletter that I will try to keep brief and to the point. Hopefully, this may help shed a little light on a somewhat complex health insurance world.
